True, you could argue this has been restricted as of Homeworld 2, since only Capital-class vessels like the Battlecruiser, Carrier, Shipyard, and Mothership can host Hyperspace Control modules, however in-campaign these are never used as more than a means of improving Tactical FTL, since the Pride of Hiigara never needed one to complete Far jumps, and it was rarely featured on other ships completing Short-Jumps (including not only Vaygr vessels, but also the Nabaal and Soban). Speaking of frigates, any frigate-size or larger ship can also be pulled along by the quantum wake of another jump-capable vessel, meaning that even if only a few vessels in a fleet are jump capable, that's more than enough to bring the majority of the fleet with them. Hell, Captain Soban arrives via short jump using only frigates. I mean, if you really need more proof, Captain Elson was the captain of the Destroyer Kapella, hopping around with his fleet sparking resistance against the Taiidan all across the galaxy. Mind you, Frigates are technically capital ships in-universe, requiring both research in Capital Ship Drives and Chassis before becoming fully available, and are also able to jump through hyperspace alone.

I mean, most harvesting operations are mobile and under a command ship ( like a carrier, which is ftl capable), and obviously most fleets contain frigates and capital ships with the technology as well.Īlso, if your argument is instead that capital ships don't have Short-Jump capability, you'd be sorely mistaken, because again it is a defining trait of the class.Ĭlick to shrink. What we're saying is that fleets are FTL capable (namely due to all of their capital ships having Hyperspace drives), as are most forms of large-scale infrastructure for their war machine, such as carrier-led harvesting operations and Shipyards. However, these locations are often well defended deep in the inner rim, or are incredibly well hidden and stealthed (Captain Elson being necessary to find the Taiidan Variants). Large construction facilities such as those which build the Shipyards and Motherships (Tanis Base is an excellent example) are not FTL capable, and neither are static defenses such as system-wide Hyperspace inhibitors used by.well, everyone at some point. No one is saying "Everything is FTL capable in Homeworld."įighters, for example, are not FTL capable, and neither are Corvettes, or most Resource collectors. As Kiith-Sa LiirHra said, "you cannot consider your spirits yet tested if you accept only those battles where victory is certain."Ĭlick to shrink.

Yeah, they're just Kiith Naabal, but they knew the Mothership was coming, that they'd need the carrier, and that if they left they'd be abandoning her to the Vaygr forces gathering in the area.

Hell, I doubt their drives were even damaged in the first portion, or that the Vaygr Carriers were mounting those damnable Hyperspace inhibitors, since considering Hiigara's warrior past, I doubt they'd back down from a fight. The Shipyard Nabaal was to stay in the resource-rich Sarum System to " reinforce the Hiigaran Defense Fleet and maintain a supply line to Hiigara." It's the third-to-last line of the mission, actually.Īlso, as a side thing, why would you leave when the Mothership -the very core of Hiigara's counterattack and the hope of your people- is literally right there helping defend you? When the Galaxy is being overrun by hordes of Barbarians, and you are on the fringes of Hiigaran space, where would you go that is safer than alongside the Pride of Hiigara? Or in the bountiful Sarum System where you could potentially build your own defensive fleet? Why would you run when you still have guns and industry that can aid in the Mothership's Defense? Yes, they can jump out after the repairs have been made, but at that point why would they want to? Click to shrink.I know everybody's already mentioned it, but it's worth saying again:
